This adventurous journey takes you on a wild trail, in search of the elusive Snow Leopard. While most of the Snow Leopard expeditions are conducted in the Leh Ladakh region, this one takes you to Kibber in Spiti Valley. Kibber also Kyibar is a village high in the Spiti Valley in the Himalayas at 4270 meters or 14,200 ft in Himachal Pradesh in northern India. With seasoned trackers and an experienced photographer tour manager, spotting Snow Leopards becomes a second nature in this trip. Off course the whole experience of home stays, Snow covered Mountain trails, makes this expedition a signature Eventours Travels Wildlife tour.

Day 1 New Delhi – Chandigarh 

This morning we will travel to Chandigarh for our pre-start on this Snow Leopard Expedition. Last minute checks and trip briefing will be conducted at your Chandigarh Hotel. 

 

Day 2 Chandigarh to Rampur Bushahr (240 Km drive) 

This morning we will depart for Rampur Bushahr where you will be assisted with check-in to the hotel Nau Nabh Heritage. The rest of the day is at leisure. 

 

Day 3: Rampur Bushahr to Kaza (283 kilometers)

The journey from Rampur (Shimla District) to Kaza (Lahaul-Spiti) is a scenic route. You will be passing through Kinnaur District where you get to observe the drastic change in landscape between the two destinations; as you enter Kinnaur the area is dry and arid. Spiti Valley begins from Sumdo Check post. Foreign nationals are required to issue an Inner Line Permit to enter this region. Kaza is at an altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level. Tonight we will arrange for your accommodation at a local home stay with a local family. You will be in your designated comfortable warm rooms where you will be served hot home-cooked food. A good night’s rest is a must to acclimatize your body well to the high altitude.  


Day 4: Kaza to Kibber

After breakfast, you check out of the home stay and head to Kee Monastery in the same vehicle. Take blessings from the Trans-Himalayan Gods before you venture into snow leopard territory. Learn about the Buddhist culture of Spiti from the Lamas residing at Kee. After a Holy visit, we take you to Kibber where you check into the Wildlife Home stay. Take short walks around the village today to get a feel of the high altitude and understand the climate well. Kibber is at an altitude of 4270 meters. Lunch and Dinner will be served at the Home stay. 



Day 4 to Day 10 Kibber 

There are three areas within the sanctuary where sightings are most common. Spiti United trackers will already be out on field scanning for the snow leopards. A porter will be assisting you to carry your equipment. Group guide will be waiting at the meeting point, i.e. outside your home stay. After breakfast meet the guide and have a chat with him. The trackers and guides will be communicating with one another using walkie-talkies so they would have an understanding between one another about where to take you on each day for snow leopard sighting. Other wildlife inhabiting this region is Tibetan Wolf, Himalayan Ibex, Red Fox, Bharal, Golden Eagle, Saker Falcon, Himalayan Griffon Vultures, Pika, Wooly Hare, and several types of bird species that you will get to observe on this trip. Tiffin on each day will be brought to you on the field. Tea will also be served on field. Spend time with the experienced Spiti United trackers and understand in depth the behavior of snow leopards and the patterns they follow. 

 

Day 11: Kibber to Rampur Bushahr

Early departure at 0600 hours for Rampur Bushahr. The tour manager will assist you with check-in at the Nau Nabh Heritage Hotel. 

 

Day 12: Rampur to Chandigarh   

After breakfast; Rampur Bushahr to Chandigarh transfer Driver drops you back to Chandigarh the city beautiful with fond memories of the snow leopard expedition. 

 

Day 13: Chandigarh to New Delhi

This morning after a leisurely breakfast you will be transferred to New Delhi hotel for your onward travel plans.   



Please Note: 

 All nights in Kibber will be at our home stay which is in Kibber village; this expedition does not involve sleeping in tents. Rooms are equipped with an attached toilet which has a chemical toilet, running water is not available in toilets, bucket water will be provided to you. Each room has a designated firewood heating system.  

Each participant is provided with a porter to carry their equipment on the field. The porter will be with you throughout the duration of field visits. Lunch is packed and sent out to you on field. Breakfast and Dinner is served at the home stay.
