LEH

Leh is a great place to visit in India because it’s easy for travelers and has beautiful mountains. The Old Town has many crumbly houses and Buddhist stupas. It’s dominated by a steep and rocky ridge with a palace and fort built in Tibetan style. The busy bazaar area has many tourist shops and restaurants. But if you go down some side streets, you’ll find green suburbs with gardens growing barley. The Ladakhi buildings have flat roofs, sturdy walls, and pretty window frames. They are connected by small paths and streams. Leh’s a place that’s all too easy to fall in love with, but take things easy on arrival. The altitude means that most visitors initially suffer mild headaches and breathlessness. To avoid getting sick from the altitude, drink ginger tea and take it easy when you first get there. It’s not a good idea to climb Palace Ridge or Shanti Stupa in Leh on your first two days unless you’re used to the altitude. It’s a good idea to delay trekking or going on jeep rides over high passes to Nubra or Pangong.

Khardung La

Khardung La is one of the highest motorable passes in the world. At Khardung La you never know when it snows. The weather is unpredictable there. Off course the Kashmiri Tea and noodles that they serve in the cafeteria are enough to put all woes at ease. They even have a Maggi (famous Indian instant noodles) Story written on the front wall. Khardung La is your second point of attraction after Leh for a traveler to Ladakh.

Join the Indus River in Baltistan. The Nubra Valley was one of the trading centers on the famous ancient Silk Road that ran through the region. Shaggy Bactrian camels can be seen around the dunes between the villages of Deskit and Hunder, which were used for transportation during the Silk Road era.
