TRIBAL EXTRAVAGANZA

Trip Overview:

A land of tribes, Nagaland is an abode amongst the hills with stellar landscapes, beautiful tea gardens, high mountains, and vibrant culture in Northeast India. Nagaland is also referred to as, The Falcon Capital of The World. It has an ancient history of tribes whose count sums to be as much as 66 including the sub-tribes. Out of these, 16 are considered major tribes. Tribe traditions and loyalties play an important role in Naga society. The zest with which people live here is inspirational. One must make the people of Nagaland their host and cherish the culture at par with the stellar geography of this part of Northeast India.

MOKOKCHUNG

Mokokchung is a modern town complete with concrete houses, tarred roads, and even traffic jams. It is the home to the Ao Nagas. The Ao Naga tribe was the one who introduced Christianity in the region in the 19th century. In addition, the place is also known as the cultural and intellectual capital of the state of Nagaland. Anywhere in Mokokchung, you will see that anybody can visit anybody, which is of course reflective of the whole Naga culture. Here the young have a deep respect for the elderly. Mokochung is known for its hills and rugged terrain; the presences of several gorges as well as glens that make their way through these hills add to the natural beauty of the place.

MON i Nagaland

Mon offers the exotic tribal deal-fierce, outlandishly dressed warriors with a penchant for macabre home decor and freshly hunted meat. This, after all, is the land of the head-hunting Konyaks. You will see as Mon village begins at the base of a hill and gradually rises, with vegetable patches and chicken coops in tow. And as you move inside the Angh’s, the village chief’s house, you will see men in trance mixing hairy-looking leaves with strips of black opium to prepare their smoke. Each drag is washed down with a swig of black tea. Smoke curls up as if from a couple of dragons in the darkening hut.
