Tsomoriri Lake

Trip Overview:

At 15,075 feet, it is the tallest lake in India. Officially, the lake is known as the Tsomoriri Wetland Sanctuary and is only accessible in summer. Located in Changthang (Northern Plains) in southeastern Ladakh, Chomoriri or Lake Moriri is famous for its picturesque scenery. The alpine lake lies between Ladakh in the north, Tibet in the east, and Zanskar in the west. Tsomoriri and Pangong Tso are the two most popular highland lakes in Ladakh.

 The lake got its name because of its interesting history. One day, a nun was crossing a lake on a yak named Chomo. The yak began to sink, but the nun managed to get ashore. She said that on the beach, a nun shouted “Li Li” to Yaku, which meant “Come here”, and from then on, the lake became known as Chomo Liri.

After breakfast drive for Tsomoriri Lake (240 Kms. approx.) through Push, Chumathang (warm spring) Reach Tsomoriri by afternoon. The evening stroll across the lake is an experience of scenic splendor. Overnight Camp.

Early morning for a stroll at the lake and experience the splendor of the lake and its converting colors. After breakfast drive to Tsokar Lake, en route visit the Sulphur mines. Arrive at Tsokar Lake in the afternoon. Overnight resort.

After a leisurely breakfast drive to Leh passing through Taklang La, the second motorable pass on earth at 17,585 ft. En route go to Hemis and Thiksey Monasteries and Shey Palace. Arrive in Leh by evening. Overnight on the accommodation.

Transfer to the airport and fly back to Delhi. Arrive and find your accommodation close to the airport.
