A Tryst with Nature – Borneo Photographic Expedition
Trip Overview:
Our adventure begins in the beautiful island of Malaysian Borneo, a paradise on earth rich in flora, fauna and discoveries.
You’ll encounter the endangered red-haired Orangutan, in Malay meaning “person of the forest”. Learn the conservation efforts at the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center. Embark on a boat cruise along the Kinabatangan River in search of various primate groups including the Proboscis Monkeys, which are endemic to the jungles of Borneo and are distinguished by its prominent nose. Then, a flight to Singapore opens up a whole new world of a contrasting blend of culture, cuisine, arts and architecture. Experience world-class shopping along Orchard Road; escape the hustle and bustle with a visit to the Botanic Gardens or the awe-inspiring Gardens by the Bay.
To truly experience Singapore’s diverse ethnology, walk along the ethnic quarters of Chinatown, Kampong Glam, Little India, Joo Chiat and Katong.

In flight en –route to your destination
Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by our local representative and transferred to the hotel for check in. The rest of the day will be free at leisure.

Start your tour with a scenic drive through this city, formerly known as “Singgahmata” or “the Place where the Eye Lingers” has risen from the destruction on the last world war to become a vibrant and modern city that still retains its traditional charms. See many places of interests in the city center such as the Wisma Tun Mustapha (Sabah Foundation Building), Sabah State, City Mosque and the Sabah Museum for the historical and cultural aspects of the indigenous people.
Today, board a short morning flight to Sandakan, the gateway to Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary. You’ll be greeted upon your arrival at Sandakan Airport by your local guide. Get acquainted with a video about the plight of the Orangutans and learn about the rehabilitation’s conservation efforts before we continue to meet these bright-eyed primates. Take a ten-minute stroll through the rainforest on a wooden boardwalk that takes you to the viewing platform where we’ll witness the feeding of the orangutans. After lunch, transfer by road (approx. 2.5 hours) to Sukau. Check in at one of the river cabins. Relax by the river before we cruise Kinabatangan, Sabah’s longest river by boat. The river will give you the opportunity to see an abundance of wildlife in its virgin mangrove and rainforest habitat. Search for some of the primate species including the Proboscis Monkeys as they rest on treetops. Settle down for dinner and overnight stay at the lodge by the river.

After breakfast, we will take you to a jungle walk along the trail to the ox-bow lake for bird watching. After lunch, you will have free time to relax before we continue to a river cruise in the late afternoon to see more wildlife along the Sukau Kinabatangan River bank.

We leave Sukau early in the morning and drive to the Gomantong Cave located within the Gomantong forest reserve. For over 400 years the Orang Sungai natives of the Kinabatangan River have harvested the edible birds’ nests made by swift lets that live in these caves. Today these edible birds’ nests are sold locally or exported at a high commercial value. Take about 15-minute boardwalk to the opening of Semut Hitam cavern and explore the cave system. We drive back to Sandakan for lunch. In the afternoon, continue for the city tour, visit water village, central market and Buddhist temple. At the end of the day, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Kota Kinabalu for a night’s rest.

After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport for your flight to Singapore. Arrive at the Changi International Airport. Get transferred to the hotel and check-in. Relax and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Also known as the ‘Garden City’ and the ‘Lion City’, Singapore has a range of attractions and activities for you. You can either opt to explore the city on your own or just go out for a stroll along Orchard Road, lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants. Return back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Your orientation tour of Singapore begins with a drive around the Civic District, past the Padang, the Cricket Club, the historic Parliament House, the Supreme Court and City Hall. Enjoy the impressive views of Marina Bay at the Merlion Park. Do not miss out on this great photo opportunity with the Merlion, a mythological creature that is part lion and part fish. Visit Thian Hock Keng Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist-Taoist temples on Singapore Island before driving past Chinatown. Next stop is the National Orchid Garden, within the Singapore Botanic Gardens, which boasts a colorful display of 60,000 orchid plants. Our final stop at Little India will entice you with the scent of joss sticks, jasmine and spices. This afternoon is free to plan your own itinerary.

With your free time in Singapore, admire the iconic Marina Bay – the area that houses some of the city’s most impressive architectural achievements. Feast your eyes on the commanding Marina Bay Sands, distinctive lotus-shaped Art Science Museum and towering skyscrapers in the financial district. Pose for photos with Singapore’s iconic Merlion fountain and take snaps of the city’s impressive skyline across the glistening water of the bay. About 15 minutes stroll will take you to the foot of the spectacular Gardens by the Bay, home to the striking ‘Supertrees’ – giant tree-like structures that grow vertical tropical gardens. If you are a food lover, you must try Singapore’s Chilli Crab! One of Singapore’s National Dishes, and can be found in seafood restaurants all over the island. It is traditionally eaten with bare hands as a means to savor the juicy crab meat with its sweet and spicy chili sauce.

All boat transfers offshore happen only during the day. We only have boat transfers to areas deemed safe and avoid other areas altogether.
Vaccination: We recommend vaccines such as Poliomyelitis (childhood booster), Tetanus (childhood booster), Typhoid (food & water borne diseases) and Hepatitis A (food and water borne diseases). For those venturing outside cities and towns, further recommended vaccines are Hepatitis B, Rabies, Japanese B Encephalitis, Tuberculosis, Meningitis and Malaria prophylaxis.
