The town is located at the confluence of the Shyok and Indus rivers in the Kargil region of Jammu and Kashmir, about 163 km northwest of Leh. According to popular belief, Brokpas was part of Alexander the Great’s army and came to the area 2,000 years ago. Brokpas live in five villages.
